The Presidency yesterday cancelled the planned special parade by the Brigade of Guards to honour President Muhammadu Buhari on his 75th birthday.
Reasons for the cancellation were however not made public by the Presidency.
It was gathered that the president’s family, led by his wife, Aishat and some presidential aides led by the president’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, had planned a low-key birthday celebration for the president where they would present birthday cards to him.
It would be recalled that President Buhari had in 2016 inspected a special parade mounted by the Brigade of Guards as part of activities to mark his 74th birthday anniversary which coincided with his daughter’s (Zahra) wedding.
Zahra got married to Ahmed Indimi, the son of a multibillionaire oil tycoon, Mohammed Indimi, in another low-key event.
NAN also observed that Nigerians had been congratulating President Buhari on his 75th birthday in various platforms of the social media since Thursday.
They rejoiced with the president and prayed for his good health as well as wishing the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government success in the discharge of its promises to Nigerians.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan, in his birthday congratulatory message to President Buhari, described him as a statesman who has earned a special place in history.
“I prayed that the God Almighty that has kept you alive and healthy till now, will continue to protect and strengthen you as you lend your efforts towards the realization of our collective dreams for a greater and more prosperous nation,’’ Mr. Jonathan said in a statement on Friday.
Others and prominent Nigerians including state governors, leadership and members of the National Assembly also felicitated with the president.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki, in a message sent through his twitter handle @BukolaSaraki, using the hashtag #PMBAt75, prayed that God may grant President Buhari wisdom to continue to run the affairs of Nigeria.
He said: “Happy Birthday Mr. President! I wish you the blessings of the Almighty, and continued wisdom and grace as you celebrate another
year.’’
Idris Baba, who wrote in response to Mr. Saraki’s birthday wish, said: “I join the Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki in wishing the President a Happy Birthday as Baba is Aging with Grace. May Almighty Allah Continue to Protect Baba for us.’’
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has also eulogized President Muhammadu Buhari as he clocked 75 years.
In a congratulatory message he personally signed to mark the president’s birthday anniversary, Dogara praised Buhari for his uncompromising stance and relentless commitment in introducing deft policies aimed at achieving full economic recovery and growth.
He described the President as a visionary and prudent leader who curved a nitch for himself as military Head of State and has brought to bear his long standing pedigree as an incorruptible leader, in the discharge of his duties as a civilian President and commander-in-chief of the armed forces. “ The numerous achievements of our APC led government which you pilot and your revolutionary zeal, courage and dynamism in leadership have earned you and indeed Nigeria, respect globally as well as inspired and rekindled the hope of Nigerians for better days ahead. “
While assuring the president of the continued support and cooperation of the legislature in the task of nation building, Dogara prayed God to continue to grant him more wisdom and many more years of sound health as he presides over the affairs of the nation.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has said that Godcalled President Mohammadu Buhari to redeem Nigeria from hersocio-economic challenges, even as he congratulated him on his 75th birthday.
“On behalf of my family and constituents, therefore, I pray God, who has called you, to continue to support you with length of days, sound health, wisdom, grace, and indeed all that it takes to etch your days and stewardship in gold in the annals of the nation. Happy birthday, Mr. President”, Ekweremadu said in a goodwill message released to newsmen on Sunday.
According to the goodwill message signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Uche Anichukwu, Ekweremadu further described President Buhari as an elder statesman, who had continued to pay his dues in service to the nation.
He expressed gratitude to God for restoring the President’s health and urged Nigerians not to relent in their prayers for the President as he continues to pilot the affairs of the nation.
Also, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal in a message issued by his spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, the governor said Buhari has paid his dues in the Nigerian polity, and prayed to God to continue to bless the life of the President.
“Attaining 75 years in life calls for thanks giving and expression of gratitude to God. I am glad the Almighty Allah has blessed our President with long life and good health.
“No doubt, the President has proven himself to be a leader of high ethics and morality. We in Sokoto State join all Nigerians in wishing the President a happy birthday,” Tambuwal said.
The governor further prayed to God to grant Buhari more productive years to see a more united, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria. Similarly, the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his 75th birthday, describing his leadership style as exemplary.
Commending his dedication to the course of the common man, Obaseki said: “As you mark this day, we are inspired by your exemplary leadership, dedication to the course of the common man and relentless commitment to restoring the country to greatness.
He further said that the perception of Nigeria by the international community is fast changing for the better, as many countries now believe that our problems as a country are not beyond us.
“We pray and wish you excellent health, divine grace, boundless fulfillment and happiness to celebrate many more years ahead.”
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in a statement signed by it’ s National chairman John Oyegun said “we attest that under his leadership, the President Muhammadu Buhari administration is building a new Nigeria for our progress, peace, unity and prosperity; restoring our country to its deserved standing among the comity of progressive nations; fighting corruption and repairing our value system; diversifying our economic revenue base, creating jobs and economic opportunities for Nigerians; bringing succour to the insurgency-ravaged North-East; reforming the oil, defence, pensions, and other critical sectors and creating a world-class transport system, among others.”Our great Party wishes the President many more happy, healthy and rewarding years of service to the nation and Party.
