Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Eze Duruiheoma has said that the commission’s newly established institute would provide accurate demographic data for national development.
Duruiheoma stated this on Tuesday, in Abuja, during a 3-day workshop with the theme: ‘Role of the National Population Institute in fulfilling the mandate of the commission’.
He said the institute, which was established in line with the country’s Vision 20:2020 will serve as intellectual hub and will spearhead the knowledge-driven quest in all the activities of the commission.
“The institute will provide technical assistance to government on non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working on population and population-related matters. It will disseminate outcomes of research on Nigeria’s population. It will run and maintain a world-class library and demographic data base, among others”, he stated.
On her part, head of the population institute, Mrs. Patience U. Mbagwu said the pilot institute of the Commission will provide good quality data about Nigerians and beyond.
Mbagwu also said that the institute will execute projects that would help generate ideas and policies for effective population management in the country.
