Members of National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), have alleged a despicable attempt by some Stakeholders in the Union to impose unqualified Candidate on the leadership of the association in Edo State.
Mrs Joy Musa Aghedo, Candidate vying for NAWOJ Secretary in the State, Joy Musa Aghedo during a peaceful protest to the Secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Wednesday in Benin City, said the plot was to disqualify some Contestants who posses University degree and allow those with questionable National Examinations Council (NECO) certificates to hold positions in the association.
She appealed to the State and national leadership of NUJ and NAWOJ not to treat the issue of Union’s Register and missing attendance lists Edo NAWOJ with kid-gloves ahead of the forthcoming election tentatively slated for Friday November 29, 2019.
Mrs Aghedo, berated Caretaker Committee led by Mrs Peace Imafidon for attempting to limit the circle of manoeuvring with her divided loyalties.
“Apart from that the names of some members who were on apologies during the emergency Congresses were not there.
“More worrisome is that 95 per cent of Edo NAWOJ Congresses by the previous administration were emergency Congresses”, she said.
The Spokesperson of the protesters, said: “NUJ should help to sanitise NAWOJ election and that those without certificate should not be imposed on us or allow to contest positions.
“Edo NAWOJ will not fold its arms and watch illegalities thrive in the Association.
“There was this issue of attendance. Some highly placed individuals in some quarters want to use attendance to disqualify people qualified contestants with degree holders in this election and allow those with questionable NECO certificates to hold positions in the association.
“With all due respect, how can you present attendance sheets that are either not signed or have no date?
Even the last Congress where the last Credentials Committee was inaugurated was not among the list that is being paraded.
