The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, at the weekend said development and reforming of Nigeria cannot be realised unless youths, women and persons with disabilities register with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and effect the change they truly desire.
Briefing journalists in Abuja after a meeting with the Forum of State chairmen of APC, to brief them on the proposed nationwide membership Registration and Revalidation exercise commending Monday, Governor Bello, who is the chairman of mobilisation Committee, cautioned against leaving the development of the country in the hands of politicians.
Bello said it was no longer expedient for Nigerians to continue to criticize the government on social media without participating actively in it.
“My Committee first is to educate, sensitize and mobilize youths, women and people living with disabilities to come and join the All Progressives Congress so that the change, the good governance, good policies and programmes that we so desire as a nation can be achieved.
“Politics is too important to be left in the hands of politicians alone. Professional bodies, artisans, farmers, women, youths should come onboard and participate actively. This is a golden opportunity.
“This is an exercise that has been done before (registration and revalidation). We are simply rebuilding the party from bottom to up. The number of our membership will determine our strength and I’m calling on all leaders, whether political leaders, religious leaders or any form of leadership position you are occupying to go and mobilize your followers because the number of people you have will determine the strength and your say in any government whatsoever.
“Now the State Chairmen that I address today are very necessary because they are in charge with the responsibilities of managing and administering our political activities at the State level. There is no how we will be able to move round the State and geopolitical zones without their assistance and participating actively because they know the nooks and crannies in their States.
“They know the leaders, they know the mothers and together with the various Committees that will be saddled with the responsibilities they need to work harmoniously together and I have the 100% buy-in of all the State Chairmen to participate actively in this sensitization, mobilization and education of the Nigerians towards the forthcoming exercise.
“The exercise will start on 25th January, 2021 with the inauguration of all of the Committees that are going to various States and geopolitical zones. Thereafter, all the officers and officials who will go and conduct the exercise shall be trained and after the training, materials shall be deployed to the various nooks and crannies of the country for the exercise,” Bello stated.
In a related development, APC at the weekend denied the online report flying around that its nationwide membership Registration and Revalidation exercise has been suspended indefinitely.
In a statement issued Sunday and signed by the National Secretary, Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Sen. John Akpan Udoedehe, the APC said the notice in circulation is fake and highly mischievous.
Udoedehe stressed that the APC membership registration, revalidation and update exercise remains on course and commences as scheduled in the attached timetable.
