• Extends CVR by 2 weeks

Barely six months to the conduct of 2019 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the registration of additional twenty three (23) political parties.
With this development, the country now has a total of ninety one (91) political parties.
Following the new registration, the INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu has invited the national chairmen and national secretaries of the 23 newly-registered parties to receive their certificates of registration at an event scheduled to hold tomorrow at the INEC Conference Room in Abuja.
Prominent among the parties in existence before now are the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party (LP), Accord (A), and Social Democratic Party (SDP), among others.In a related development, INEC has extended the Voters’ registration exercise by two weeks to enable those who are yet to register to do so before the close of time.
The exercise which was originally scheduled to end on August 17th, according to the commission, will now last till August 31st.
