Rampaging kidnap gang in Delta State on Wednesday in the early hours abducted a senior police officer, SP Mike Ndikwe attached to the “B Division” Police Station Asaba, and two other business men around Okwe Quarters of Asaba before they zoomed into unknown destination towards Ogwashi-Uku community near Asaba.
It was gathered that the police officer was on his way to the station to resume morning duty when the said kidnap gang who seemingly were on his trail, blocked him with their Toyota Camry vehicle and forced him into the car at gun point.
Eye witness, Godwin Udem who spoke to journalists in Asaba, said that the kidnap gang shoot at some of the motorists in the area who attempted to scream for help after a long battle for them to move the policeman into their car.
According to him, “the kidnap gang started shooting when they were forcing the policeman into their car, some persons were injured, i was just coming with my keke when i ran into the incident, so i took the scene”.
Two of the injured motorists, (David Osakwe, Henry Akpe) who spoke to journalists said we were hit by the hoodlums’ stray bullets on our legs and blood gushed out, we were lucky and immediately were rushed to FMC Asaba where we are currently receiving treatments, we saw how they were forcing the policeman into their car including the two other men we don’t know their names”
But the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka who confirmed the incident said then police man was abducted on his way to the “B” Division where he is currently serving, adding that efforts were on going to rescue him unhurt.
DSP Aniamaka disclosed that the kidnap suspects drove in camry without plate numbers, through Ogwahsi-Uku community, adding that two businessmen were also kidnapped on the way.
He said: “we received the report that two businessmen were also abducted on Ogwashi-Uku road by the police in Ogwashi-Uku Police Division with our policeman, we have intensified search for the hoodlums, and will bring them to book soon”.
Sources said there seemed to be renewed of kidnappings in the state, especially along Ogwashi-Uku road during nightfall as no fewer than eight persons have been allegedly kidnapped in the last four weeks on the road.
While the hue and cry of the policeman kidnapped hitherto creates tension and fear of the unknown, a two year old girl was rescued from the hands of a kidnap suspect in Asaba on Tuesday afternoon.
It was gathered that the baby girl was allegedly taken away by the suspect who under the claim to have stormed the abode of the victim to buy biscuit, and in the process, hoodwinked the little girl identified as Amanda into his tricycle and attempted to drive off when neighbours around moved after him, and was rounded up.
Speaking to journalists, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed that the suspect identified as Emeka Akporume was nabbed by neighbours around, adding that after beating him severely, handed him over to the police at the “A” Division where he confessed to be ritual syndicate.
He said that the suspect will be charged to court on completion of investigation.
The incident which occurred at Umuagu Quarters of Asaba, it was gathered attracted hundreds of persons to the scene while the unfolding drama lasted.
