Police wives seek govt support in fight against drugs, child abuse

The Police Wives Association of Nigeria (POWA) has called on the government at various levels and traditional rulers to support its effort in fight against illicit drugs abuse and child abuse in Nigeria.
The call was made by the POWA president who is also wife of the Inspector General of Police, Princes Asma’u Idris Ndayako while launching the sensitization campaign against drugs abuse and child abuse yesterday at Police headquarter Dutse in Jigawa state.
She explained that, POWA is in Jigawa state to sensitize people against illicit drug abuse and child molestation which become rampant among the people particularly the youth.
According to her, the only and the easier way to reduce the drug abuse and child molestation in Nigeria, is to join hand together particularly with support from governments and traditional ruler across the country.
Princes Asma’u who said, the future of Nigeria is in serious terrible if measures has not been taken on Nigerian youth particularly the students at various institutions that believe drug abuse as passion in their lives, adding that government most take a serious action to overcome the problems.
Also speaking when the POWA president Paid him a visit in his palace, the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Nuhu Muhammed Sunusi has charged Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) to prevail on their husbands to curb the menace of illicit drug trafficking in the Northern part of the country..
His words “you should talk to your husbands, whom are the security officers to ensure adequate measures in curbing this menace”.
Dutse Emir who was represented by the Galadiman Dutse, Alhaji Basiru Muhammed Sunusi said, “it is unfortunate that this practicee has moved further to amongst married women in villages and other communities”, he said.
He said, “the abuse of drugs is a source of worry to the state”, noting that, “even students in schools that we believe should be our future leaders have taken to the unfortunate habit “, he stated.
