Police to collaborate with JNI to end child abuse

The Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Police, said it will continue to collaborate with Jama’atuNasril Islam (JNI), in its bid to end violence against children in the State.
Police Divisional Officer in charge of Mangu Local Government Area, CSP Daniel Alex, stated this at a sensitisationprogramme on Imams and religious leaders on the need to end violence against children, organized by JNI in collaboration with UNICEF, held Mangu.
He expressed worry on the high rate of Child right violations, saying the level of Child rape and other abuses been received at the police station are becoming things of great concern.
Represented by the division head of patrol and guard, DSP Sabo Damson,the DPO said: “We are worried by the level of Child Abuse and violation against their humanity, carried out and reported to the police station.”
“Will continue to partner organizations to end the violence against children,” he added. “It is worrisome when such issues comes up at the police division, with most of it having men raping girl children and committing other vices.”
Plateau State director of publicity, MalamSaniMudi, said the collaboration with the UNICEF, is a pilot programme with JNI, involvingtwo States of Gombe and Plateau in the North, with four Local Government Areas in each.
He said:”Jos North, Mangu, Room and Wase Local Government Areas, “are selected in the State.”
“Harassing children, denial to education, denial to good feeding, child labour, harrasment at places of apprenticeship are all forms of violence against them, which must be stopped,” he said.
Mudi said youths should shun any temptation by politicians who engaged them into illicit drugs, which is also a form of violence against children.
Similarly, the JNI programme manager, MalamAbubakarGafai, said though what UNICEF, have identified and enter collaboration with JNI, are all parts of the Islamic doctrine.
Gafai said; “Violence against children and humanity is anti-Islam.”
“Islam abhors all forms of violence against Children, it is inhuman and an offence, a true Muslim is the one that his fellow Muslim brothers are save from the deeds of his hands and mouth,” he quoted Prophet Muhammad saying.
He reiterated that it is the absolute rights of a child for his parents to see to his or her proper upcoming and good education.
