Two suspected kidnappers, at the early hours yesterday met their waterloo during a gun duel with policemen in Edo state.
The suspected hoodlums, believed to have been responsible for the abduction of some victims, including a female, allegedly ambushed a team of operatives of the Anti-kidnapping Squad in a forest on Igbanke-Evwohimi road, in Orhionmwon local government area of the state.
In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, Edo state Police Command, DSP, Noble Uwoh, said the policemen, in company of four suspected kidnappers whose names were given as Joe Frank Ogbewe, Jerry Mike Joshua, Lucky Okoruwa and Destiny Ifechukwudi went on enquiry to recover the individual arms kept at separate locations, which led to cross-exchange of fire.
It said four of fleeing members of the gang also sustained bullet wounds, while light arms, some currencies of different denominations, a Mercedes Ben C-Class marked AGL 133 CX and 12 SIM cards, believed to have been used to negotiate ransom, were recovered by police during the operation.
The statement added that the suspects were however taken to Stella Obasanjo Women and Children Hospital, Benin City, where they were certified dead by a medical doctor at the Accident and Emergency ward.
