Police detectives attached to the state police command Asaba, Delta state, have rescued an Asaba based housewife identified as Cordelia from the hands of suspected kidnappers along the DLA road in the early hours of Tuesday.
Reports said that the detectives unknown to the kidnapped suspect laid siege around the popular DLA road, after the victim was kidnapped around Shulem Street close to a new generation church in the area and was taken to an unknown destination when they swooped on the vehicle with registration AA 233 XL where they discovered the victim was masked.
It was gathered that immediately they kidnapped her, her family members were
thrown into confusion, but one of them managed to report the matter to the police at the B Division, who were also said to have immediately swung into action to collaborate with their colleagues to rescue the victim and arrest the kidnappers on the spot.
Confirming the arrest of the kidnappers, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu, said the victim was rescued unhurt in an uncompleted building along the road following the report by her family members.
She said that the police detectives ambushed the kidnap suspects who were driving on top speed to beat security when they were stopped and searched at gun point, only to discover the victim was masked.
She said that the kidnappers knowing that the police had swooped on them, tried to escape and abandon the victim, but luck however ran out on them when one of the detectives opened fire on them and shot the leg of one of them, leaving him completely paralysed while others were rounded up.
DSP Kalu said that the victim had since after the incident, been re-united with her family members while the police detectives have commenced serious search for other hoodlums behind the act.
