Determined to rid off miscreants and cult suspects in Asaba, the Police anti crime patrol team attached to the” B” Division Police station along Asaba- onitsha expressway on Monday night raided blackspots within Asaba where the members arrested 31 suspected cultists and 17 commercial sex workers.
The suspects were reportedly arrrested along Abraka market road in Asaba, around Grand hotel along Nnebisi road, Okwe quarters, Cable Point, and around Nitel during the wee hours with no reasons adduced for their long stay other than flimsy excuses.
For the commercial sex workers, sources said many of them were housewives who allegedly lied to their husbands that they were going for vigil, only to be found hanging around for unsuspecting sex hungry men who will in turn pay them well after their bargain and subsequent agreement before retiring to hotel room where they will spend the night for limitless sexual intercourse.
A visit to the” B” Division Police station by our Correspondent revealed that the arrrested suspects were allegedly”robbing minds” with the Police Officers on how they could let off the hook, but the Divisional Police Officer ( DPO) ( namewitheld,) said he had forwarded their names and Offences to the Commissioner of Police, Hafiz Muhammed Inuwah as instructed, adding that the suspects, especially the cult members confessed to members of different cult groups operating in the state.
Recall that Asaba and its environs have been under seige of hoodlums, many of whom were members of cult groups and robbery gang operating dastardly in the last few weeks, especially in the killings of persons either as their members of innocent people.
But Hafiz Muhammed Inuwah, the Police Commissioner in the state who confirmed the arrest of the suspects on telephone on Tuesday, said investigation was ongoing with a view to ensuring their level of participation in the crimes, adding that they would be charged to court on completion of investigation
