Police probe theft of equipment at Delta Steel coy

Persons believed to be vandals operating within Aladja community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State have allegedly vandalized equipment worth billions of naira belonging to  the former Delta Steel Company (DSC) now Premium Mines & Steel Limited, (PMSL)

It was gathered that the equipment were stolen by unknown vandals through the alleged help of some community accomplices who allegedly “Settled” security guards under the guise of effecting repairs on the items.

But this development, currently shrouded in controversies, was said to have led to the sudden transfer of the Burutu Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force, ACP Ikoriovbe Marvelous Pule who was handling the case at the outset.

Sources alleged that the Delta State Police Commissioner, Adeleke Adeyinka for reasons yet to be fathomed, redeployed the Area Commander, while the nine suspects who were earlier arrested in connection with the alleged theft were released.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday in Asaba, the Police Commissioner, Adeleke Adeyinka denied the allegations regarding the arrested suspects and the transfer of the Area Commander,ACP Ikoriovbe Marvelous Pule, disclosing that he was only briefed on Saturday when the incident of the theft took place on Thursday at the company’s premises, adding that he had to go through the report but had ordered thorough investigation into the crime .

Adeyinka said that report indicated that about five load of truck of equipment were moved successfully from the DSC yard by the vandals unhindered, under the guise that the items were being taken for repairs, adding that the heavyweight duty equipment vandalized and stolen from the yard were mainly industrial plants that were termed isolate.

It was further gathered that the vandals came into the community during wee hours wee with trucks and load the items all through the night with the intention to leave the premises in the morning under the pretext that they were going to repair the equipment which had been in use for well over 37 years.

However, luck ran out of the suspects when men from the Burutu Area Command of the Police force stormed the scene following a tip off to intercept the truck at the wee hours of the morning and arrested the suspects within the DSC premises near residence of late Senator Brume in Orhoworhun community.

It was gathered that after the arrest of the suspects, claiming that disclosed politician in Udu Council Area reached out to the Area

Commander in charge of the area and pleaded for their release, claiming that the community, local government council as well as Management of Premium Mines & Steel Limited,( PMSL) formerly Delta Steel Company DSC were aware of the movement of the equipment.
