Niger state police command has paraded six suspected burglars who stole money and other valuable items like computer laptops, telephone handsets and other items belonging to the off-campus students of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Bosso campus, Minna.

The suspects who were identified as Aliyu Abdullahi, Jamilu Ibrahim, Mohammed Mustapha, Ibrahim Mohammed, Sanusi Abdullahi and Mohammed Abdullahi were paraded before newsmen at the state’s Police Command Headquarters, Minna, at the weekend.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Niger State Command, Mr. Oguche Richard Adamu, the suspects were in the habit of breaking into the rented apartments of the undergraduate students at the New York, Unguwar Biri and Tudun Fulani areas of Bosso local government in the state, after the victims must have gone to school for lectures.

“The six boys you are seeing there specialize in house-breaking and theft. They are the ones terrorising Bosso local government area of the state while most of their victims are FUT students who live off-campus.

“They broke into their houses while they have gone for their lectures and took away their money, handsets, computer laptops and other personal effects of the students. We arrested them based on a tip-off and they have also confessed to the crime” he stated.

He disclosed that before the arrest of the suspects, they were said to have sold the stolen items to a receiver, while the Police are now on the trail of the receiver, who is presently at large, as at the time of speaking to the journalists last Friday.

Accordingly, he said, police investigation into the case has been concluded, adding that the suspects have also confessed to the crime during interrogation by the police.

In the same vain, another suspected burglar, Abdul Yusuf was also paraded before the newsmen over an allegation of forcefully breaking into an unidentified female victim’s house, somewhere around Bosso local government area of the state.

The 25- year old suspect was said to have committed the crime on Sunday morning, after the victim (names withheld) had gone for church service, and carted away her belongings.

“So, when he was escaping to Tafa local government area of the state, around Sabon Wuse, the long arm of the law caught up with him, as he was intercepted by the police patrol team and in the process, he confessed to the crime, while the exhibits were recovered from him.”

The Police image-maker further informed the newsmen that the police have since concluded investigation into the matter, saying, “we are going to arraign the suspects very soon”.
