Police in Benin have paraded six students linked to rape and murder of Miss Mis Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, undergraduate student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
The suspects were identified as Nelson Ogbebor, Akato Valentine, Mrs. Tina Samuel, Mrs. Mary Ade, Nosa Osabuohien and Collins Ulegbe.
The 22-years-100-level Micro Biology student UNIBEN was sometimes in May was allegedly gang-raped and killed at the Redeemed Christian Church, Ohovbe quarters in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the State.
She was said to have gone to the church to read during lockdown, when her assailants pounced on her.
Parading the suspects, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, said the police decided to intensify efforts in unraveling the killers of the student following the wide outcry that it generated and also the interest put in by the Inspector General of Police.
He said, what we are seeing today, is a result of the uniting efforts of the police to get at the root of the crime, adding that the perpetrators have been arrested.
According to him, the postmortem results confirmed that the said victim was actually raped.
He assured the people of Edo state that the police will leave no stone unturned to unravel the mystery behind the killing.
He assured that the suspect had made useful statement to the police.
Our Correspondent reports that some of suspects confessed their level of involvements while other said they didn’t participate in the killing.
