The FCT Police Command have paraded a total of thirty-four suspected cultists, armed robbers, and arsonists who were arrested within the last one week, in the Territory.
The suspects include: three armed robbers who robbed and killed a pregnant woman at Damagaza in Apo, two suspects arrested at Lugbe zone 9 for assaulting some police personnel while responding to a distress call.
Others arrested are twelve suspects arrested for cult activities around Zuba, three okada riders who alongside others now at large almost lynched a motorist at an accident scene and seven okada riders arrested in connection with the murder of an alleged motorcycle thief in Dutse Makaranta, among other cases.
It was gathered that operatives of the Command acting on tip off, made the arrests from various parts of the nation’s capital city within the period.
Making this disclosure while briefing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, the FCT commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma disclosed that, the items recovered from the suspects include pump action rifle, nine live cartridges and two giant iron bar, plasma televisions, two mic engines and one LG amplifier.
Ciroma, who commended the FCT residents for their support, said the suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
According to him, “In the last one week, the Command has recorded remarkable progress in its fight against crime in FCT.
“While the Command redoubles its effort by deploying proactive security measures that is helping to nip crime in the bud, the Command is assuring members of the public that the protection of their lives and property remains the core of our policing mandate.
“I want to commend the existing cooperation between the Police and FCT residents. This is in line with the principle of community policing, and it’s contributing positively in the ongoing fight against crime in the FCT.”
