Police authorities in Nasarawa state have paraded 17 armed robbery suspects and recovered 126 different calibers of arms and ammunitions from the suspects.
Parading the suspects yesterday at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia, state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Umaru Isma’ila, explained that five of the suspects were arrested during a robbery operation while the remaining 12 suspects were arrested for being in possession of locally made firearms at different locations.
He stated that on 5th March, 2014, at about 6 am in the morning, a police team attached to ‘B’ Ops at the state headquarters in Lafia, while on patrol along Al-makura junction, New Market, stopped and searched one Walter Nwakafor of Angwan Tiv and recovered one short locally made pistol with one live cartridge.
ASP Isma’ila added that only three days ago, precisely on the 25th March, at about 8 pm, a patrol team attached to ‘B’ Division, Lafia, responded to a distress call of armed robbery at Gadanga Filling station along Jos road and arrested three suspects namely; Nnaemeka Arigwe, Terri Kwaghaondon and Ebuka Nwobodo a.k.a Smart.
He further disclosed that between March 10 and 26 of this year, various type of ammunitions were recovered which includes; 92, 7.62 mm; 8, 5.56 mm; 14 cartridges and two knives.
