Police nab killer of varsity don in Gombe

Gombe state Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the killer of Professor Simon Ocheme Apakwu of the Federal University Kashere.
Parading the suspect yesterday at the Police Headquarters in Gombe, the state Commissioner of Police Mr. Shina Olukolu said the suspect was arrested in Jos, the Plateau state capital following the murder of Professor Apakwu.
The suspect names which was given to newsmen as Simon Olocher (M) 25 years old was a driver attached to the Professor before he was murdered in cold blood in his residence at federal low-cost in Gombe by armed bandit.
According to the Commissioner of Police, the late Professor aged 65 years old was a lecturer at Federal University Kashere Gombe.
The deceased was alleged to have been robbed, killed and his Toyota Corolla red in colour with Reg. No. RSH 520 SE, unspecified amount of money, his two phones, and other valuable items were taking away by the suspects.
He said due to relevant information, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Criminal Investigation led a team of detectives to visit this callous crime.
However, the Commissioner of Police having satisfied with the visit by the team of detectives over the incident constituted a powerful experience team of professional detectives headed by an Assistant Commissioner of police Area Commander Gombe to unravel the motive of the crime and arrest the fleeing perpetrators within short period of time.
He said the driver connived with other two gang which he said they are on the run to kill the Professor following an information he the driver gathered that the Professor was paid some amount of money.
The CP called on residents to always give relevant information to the Police even as he said the Police are committed to protect the lives and property of citizens.
He warned that people should take precaution of those they employ to work for them saying any employee most have his full data recorded.
