Police detectives attached to the Ogwashi Uku Police Division have arrested two staff of the state owned Polytechnic ( names withheld) Ogwashi Uku,for alleged Fraud and stolen Property.
It was gathered that the two workers were alleged to have been issuing fake receipts to students of the institution in place of the authorized receipts belonging to the school.
But findings indicate that the alleged scam had been ongoing for a long time before it was blown open by whistle blowers that were privy to their activities.
Police officer attached to the Division who spoke to Journalists on condition of anonymity said” what happens is that the workers have been issuing fake receipts to students of the institution in place of the original receipt of the school,they issue these receipts and collect the school fees from unsuspecting students.the money is supposed to be paid into the school”s account and several millions of naira has gone down the drain due to the scam”
The school Public Relations Officer,( PRO) Billy Onotu when contacted over the development, denied knowledge of the scam adding” there is nothing like that going on in the institution and I am not aware of anything like that and there was no arrest of anyone please”
But the Police Commissioner in the state, Adeyinka Adeleke when contacted, confirmed that the two workers of the Polytechnic were still being detained for alleged scam and it related activities, adding that they will be charged to court on completion of investigation.
The rector of the Institution, Professor Stella Chiemeke who spoke to Journalists at the school said that the decision to eradicate corrupt practices becomes imperative considering the activities of some persons in the institution adding that under his watch, fraudulent activities would be treated to its foundation and those involved would be brought to book
