From Uche Uche, Damaturu
Yobe state police command has called on all persons in possession of unlicensed and illegal arms to submit or update records of the fire arms at the nearest police station in the state on or before the 4th of April 2018, warning that anyone who failed to comply with the directive would be arrested and prosecuted.
This is contained in a press release from the office of the Police Public Relation Officer of the Yobe police command, ASP. Bitrus Noam and made available to our reporter in Damaturu, the state capital.
The press statement revealed that the command has set up a committee on mop-up of illegal arms, which is now in operation and mandated to arrest and prosecute any person with illegal arm and so appeals to members of the public to comply and cooperate with the committee.
The police command, in the press statement, equally advised those who obtained fire arms licenses legally to update their fire arm licenses as failure to do that makes such firearm illegal.
