Police avert another bomb explosion in Kano

Kano state police command has averted another deadly bomb explosion in the Sabon Gari city of Kano yesterday, just shortly after an explosion rocked the Sabon Gari city on Sunday.

Commissioner of police in Kano, Aderenle Shinaba, who spoke to journalists in Kano yesterday, said that officers under his command discovered another car primed with explosives in Sabon Gari city of Kano.

Shinaba told journalists at the scene of the blast yesterday, that the car was abandoned by a would be suicide bomber after his men intensified patrol in the city shortly after the first car bomb went off.

“A Mitsubishi car ash in colour was discovered by our men along Tafawa Balewa road in the city, primed with two gas cylinders wired with a 25 liters of petroleum; our men has since diffused it, residents should be more vigilant and assist the police in dealing with these terrorist”, he stated.

Shinaba confirmed the death of four persons and the suicide bomber, while seven others sustained injuries, revealing that three out of the deceased were male and a girl in secondary school.

He pleaded with Kano residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement in their respective areas to the security agents.

Meanwhile, normalcy has returned to the Sabon Gari area, as residents were seeing going about their normal business, with increase in police patrol around the area.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mbah, in a statement he signed, said “The Police in Kano yesterday at about 9:00am averted what could have been another devastating bomb blast in the ancient city of Kano.

“Kano Police operatives, acting on intelligence, tracked and recovered a Mitsubishi Station Wagon car, ash in colour, with registration number Kano – AE 756 GSW, loaded with assorted gas cylinders, one container of fuel and other electrical components of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)”, Mbah said.

The statement further said the vehicle was recovered at Tafawa Balewa Street, Nasarawa area and has since been rendered safe by Police Bomb Disposal experts.

Meanwhile, the security agencies in Kano have commenced investigation into both the aborted blast, as well as the last night bomb incident in Sabon Gari city of Kano.
