The Plateau State Police Command has arrested more suspected kidnappers and armed robbers from Shendam Local Government Area of the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Isaac Akinmoyede, disclosed the development at a press briefing held Wednesday, at the Police Headquarters, Jos.
Peoples Daily earlier reported how the Command foiled robbery and criminal conspiracy attempt, Tuesday in Jos, the state capital.
CP Akinmoyede said, “on 11/02/2020 at about 7pm, one Rev. Ganko Istifanius of COCIN RCC Shimankar village of Shendam LGA reported at Shendam Divisional Headquarters that unknown gunmen entered his house and kidnapped his son, Godsave Damen and two others in the community to an unknown destination’.
He said on receipt of the information, a combined team of policemen, vigilante and hunters were immediately mobilized to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel. The commissioner said “in the process, one of the culprits was shot dead while others took to their heels”.
According to him, “exhibits recovered from the suspect include; one AK47 rifle and 21 empty shells of live ammunitions, nothing further investigations are ongoing.
The police further revealed that “on 10/02/202 at about 11pm, personnel of Operation Puff Adder and Anti-Kidnapping Unit foiled efforts of some mindless gang who attempted to snatch a motorcycle from one Idris Mohammed, Tudun Pata Nasarawa Gwong Plateau state”
The commissioner also said personnel attached to Nasarawa Gwong Division forthwith swung into action in respect of the account where they arrested one Sunday Alfa of Congo and Uzaifa Adam, Angwan Keke while the 3rd suspect named Ebere, escaped.
Akinmoyede said preliminary investigations unveils that the suspect are members of elusive motorcycle snatching syndicate terrorizing Jos and its environs. Exhibits recovered from them according to the commissioner include, one locally made pistol, a knife, one tricycle with Reg. No. BKK 813WM and a motorcycle snatched from the victim.
While encouraging members of the public to continue to desist any attempt of performing unlawful operations, the commissioner however, urge the public to collaborate with the police and provide useful information on every suspicious element in the society.
