Police arrest Benue APC spokesman, Ornguga

From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi

The Police in Benue State yesterday arrested the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC Mr. James Ornguga
According to a party source, Ornguga was arrested at about 3pm in Makurdi while he was having lunch at a local restaurant on Iorkyaa Street.
Spokesman for Jime/Ode Governorship Campaign Organisation Kula Tersoo told Peoplesdaily in telephone chat disclosed that the policemen who came in two (2) trucks, invaded the restaurant and took away Ornguga even as they demanded to know what offence he had committed.
He said the party did a quick follow up as to why he (Ornguga was apprehended), alleging that it was on the orders of Governor Samuel Ortom.
“They arrest him in a manner that depicts authoritarian government. As a party we condemn the action in its entirety. The publicity Secretary does his job as APC spokesman. If the Governor feels defamed in any way by Ornguga’s criticisms of his government, the right him to do is institute a suit a defamation or live case against him rather than he engages the Police to want to coerce us.
“We had it on good authority that 10 of us have been penciled down for arrest during g the Xmas period”,Kula alleged.
When contacted, Police Spokesperson DSP Catherine Anene said in a text message, ‘I am not aware of this please.
While the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Terver Akase said his boss is not a police man and as such cannot give orders for the arrest of people.
“When police make an arrest, they always tell the suspect or accused person why he or she is apprehended”, Akase said.
