The police in Gombe state said they have arrested four suspected criminals whom they said are specialists in cattle rustling.
Confirming the arrest to newsmen in Gombe on Tuesday, the Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Fwaje Atajiri, said the arrests were made at Liji,
outskirts of Gombe in the early hours of Tuesday when a team of
policemen who were on patrol found two cows kept close to an uncompleted
According to the police spokesman, the armed policemen mounted surveillance in the area to ensure that any one found in the area gives proper account for the cows.
He said four middle-aged men stormed the area to pick the cows and were apprehended.
He said the suspected persons later confessed to the police that they have been into the business for years, adding that they used to sell the cows in some parts of Adamawa state, as well as Shongom local government area of Gombe state.
