The Delta Police Command has said that twenty-two suspected cultists have been arrested at different locations across the state.
One of the suspects, the police boss said, Ogochukwu Obeize, 17 years old, was among the arrested suspects by men of Kwale Anti-Cult volunteer corps, adding that the suspects upon interrogation, confessed to be members of Eiye confraternity as they are currently under investigation.
Also, the police have arrested one Forgive Isiorho, 25 yeears old in Kokori inland for allegedly defiling a 13-year old girl (name withheld), while two suspected armed bandits were arrested in Effurun, Warri.
According to the statement, the armed robbery suspects fobbed one Bimbo George of her ash coloured CRV Jeep with registration No: AKD133AA at gun point around Ebrumede in Warri and also disposed another victim, Elohor Sunday of her small bag containing N11, 500,00 including ATM Card saying that the State Police Command’s desire to tackle the menace of cultism, the police boss pointed out that Anti-Cult volunteers have been out together in a various parts of the state to be as “Delta State Anti-Cult Committee”, adding that the committee would be similar to the Farmers/Herdsmen Committee already in place, and appended to all and Sunday to cooperate with the committee towards achieving the laudable objectives of setting them up.
The Police Commissioner also said it uncovered plot by hoodlums to bomb Ogwashi-Uku Prison in the state, adding that the suspect was arrested alongside others of sundry offences.
The Police Commissioner in the state, Mahammad Mustafa who confirmed this to journalists in a press statement issued and signed in Asaba, disclosed that the police arrested one 29 year old suspect Sekemia full power with Imposed Explosive Devices (IEDS) allegedly intended to use the carrying out the crime, adding that the suspect upon interrogation, confessed to the crime, claiming he wanted to free his friends serving jail terms in the prison.
He said that the suspect hails from Ayakoromor area in Burutu Local Government Area of the state, adding that the suspect was arrested based on intelligence gathering as he will be charged to court on completion of investigation.
