The Police yesterday arraigned a businessman, Jonathan Orjiude, of Plot 131 Phase 1, Nyanya, Abuja, at an Abuja Magistrates’ Court for alleged intention to steal an allocation document.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Abdullahi Adamu, told the court that the case was reported at the Wuse Police Station on Feb. 21 by one Osaretin Akhiofenai of Osagie Avenue, Benin.
Adamu said that the accused and one other person now at large allegedly formed common intention to steal an allocation document, valued at over four million naira. The document was for a consignment of bags and shoes in a container at Tin-Can Island, Lagos.
He said the accused committed the offences of joint act, criminal breach of trust and cheating, contrary to the provisions of the Penal Code. However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges, while his Counsel, Mr Ifeanyi Ngige, applied for his bail, pledging that he would provide reliable sureties.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs Similola Adeniyi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum. Adeniyi said that the sureties must be public servants in the FCT and that their residences should be verified. She adjourned the case to March 20 for further hearing. (NAN)
