Police allegedly kill activist In Delta, family petitions IGP, Commissioner

The Family of Christian NJoku allegedly murdered in Ekpan Community in Delta state by the police attached to Ekpan Police Division has petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, Mustafa Muhammad, and the Inspector General of Police, (IGP) ,Ibrahim Idris to carry out thorough findings on the incident, and ensure the policemen allegedly involved in the Murder of their Son are brought to book
Christian Njoku,an Activist In Delta state was said to have been allegedly murdered by the policemen attached to Ekpan police Division two weeks ago during nightfall while visiting a family who son was detained by the police
In a petition to the police bosses by the brother of the late Activist, Uche Njoku, a copy made available to our reporter in Asaba, the petitioner alleged that the brother was murdered by the police team led by one Sergeant Wilson Mensah due to previous quarrel Christian had with them in the past while carrying out his legitimate assignment as a human rights Activist
The petitioner accused the police of having severally warned the victim to stay clear of their path,or he will be crushed to death, alleging that some cash which was four days’ sales from the victim’s father’s shop which was supposed to be paid into their customers’ accounts was in possession of their late brother on the night he was killed, and could not be accounted for
The petitioner however urged the Nigeria Police to prove its credibility by launching thorough investigation on the matter, threatening that the family shall soon proceed to the law court to press home their plight for justice
Also, the committee for Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) Delta state Chapter in a statement by its chairman, Kehinde Taiga, a copy made available to our reporter in Asaba, assured that the CDHR will follow the matter to a logical conclusion, adding that it had carried out its own investigation by going to the area, and discovered that the police allegedly killed Christian deliberately only to tag him an armed robber to cover up their heinous crime
Part of the statement reads” Christian father is a well-known shoe dealer here in Ekpan community, Christian is an Activist, member of the CDHR, how can somebody go and rob with international passport on him? How can police say he was an armed robber who went to rob with one door car,and while the other members fled? and he could not run? “
CDHR chairman said that their activities at CDHR particularly, the bail is free campaign has continued to pitch its members against the police, adding “ police at Ovwian also shot one of our members two weeks ago, three days ago, the police threatened to kill our women leader “
But in a swift reaction, the police spokesman in the state, DSP, Andrew Aniamaka, confirmed the incident, saying that the facts before the police remain that the victim was an armed robbery suspect ,stating that due to the recent development, a proper investigation will be carried out to ascertain the true position of thing
Christian Njoku, 35 years, and a native of Ebonyi state was allegedly killed by police team attached to Ekpan police Division two weeks ago while he went visiting a family whose son was detained by the police
He was said to have been allegedly killed on the spot during nightfall by the police team immediate he identified himself as an Activist
