The Professional Insurance Ladies Association (PILA) is set to hold a career talk aimed at encouraging and nurturing students towards a career in insurance.
The President of the association, Mrs. Ose Oluyanwo, noted that the programme with the theme: Together We Can, The Youths and Insurance, is scheduled for October 10, 2019 at the University of Lagos.
She noted that the programme aims to go beyond its initial intention and expand to involve the youths in driving the technological growth within the Nigerian Insurance Industry, adding that the association hopes that at the end of this year’s series, it will be looking at a new generation of Insurance practitioners, who are poised to take the industry by storm bringing in to bear, their love and knowledge of technology, innovation and dedication.
“This year’s theme is tagged: Together We Can, The Youths and Insurance. It is instructive, as the global market today is being driven by technological capability to drive competitive advantage, which is hinged on the youths, our millennials. It is thus, a pleasure to address these group of distinguished secondary school students. Permit me to refer to them as “The future of Insurance in Nigeria”.
“The PILA career talk is a programme with a strong responsibility to encourage and nurture students towards a career in insurance.
This edition of PILA Career Talk is highly historic. It marks the 30th Anniversary of the programme.
The first was held on 16th August 1989 at Queens College, Yaba, Lagos. We at PILA take it upon ourselves in conjunction with the CIIN to encourage students to embrace insurance as a career,” she added.
She maintained that the association has ever remained a partner in progress both to CIIN, the society and other arms of the insurance industry since 1973 and that it has been complementing efforts in the following areas: Educating, guiding and attracting young career seekers into the insurance profession through our Career Talks for Secondary Schools; creating awareness for insurance at the microeconomic level of the nation through our market outreach programme for market women and upgrading and updating the competencies of our members through various manpower development programmes (Education and Training).
She posited that the body had on February 6, 2018, launched the Students Mentoring Scheme at Mutual Benefits Assurance Company Limited in Lagos, which was aimed at preparing the future generation of insurance professionals for the practicalities of the profession ahead of time.
