Peace necessary for meaningful development – Shehuri

The Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing I, Mustapha Shehuri said ,there must be peace and tranquillity in order to achieve meaningful development in the country.
Shehuri made the discloure during a courtesy visit by the Igbo World Union (IWU), to the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing in Abuja.
He told his August visitors, that the Federal Government was committed to reviving depleted infrastructure in the South-East, saying that to this end, it had embarked on construction of 58 road projects, including highways and bridges.
Minister stated that,“in the southeast alone, we are ongoing construction of 58 highways and bridges. “We also have the second Niger Bridge ongoing. Others are the Enugu- Port-Harcourt roads; Umuahia- Aba roads and the Second Niger Bridge which I personally went to inspect. “I never thought of the progress achieved in the project.
The contractors had in one year done almost 40 percent. That means they can deliver the project in less than the projected three years given. “I want to assure Nigerians that we are all partners and we can work together to deliver the projects as we all need to put our heads together and ensure that government realizes and delivers on its wishes and projects. However, that cannot be possible unless there is peace.”, Shehuri said .
He futher explained that, President Muhammadu Buhari strongly believed in investment in infrastructure to grow the country’s economy”.
While revealing that ,the Federal Government also initiated the Presidential Intervention on Infrastructure to source for funds from the African Development Bank (ADB), China Exim Bank, Euro Bond and the Sukuk (interest – free bonds) to tackle the provision of critical infrastructure, basic amenities that were lacking in the country .
Consequently,He also brifed the members of the Union on efforts made by the present Administration on the provision of decent and affordable housing to Nigerians, the Minister informed them that construction of houses under the National Housing Programme (NHP) is on going in the all the state capitals of the South East, while contracts for the second phase have been awarded and work will commence soon.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Ambassador Mishak Nnata, stated that the Union came to commend the Federal Government for the good work it is doing especially in the South East, also reiterating that,the Igbo World Union is a platform used to propagate peace and progress.
The Union also used the opportunity to call on the Federal Government to give the South East more consideration in the “Next Level.”
