PDP’s Fintiri emerges Adamawa gov-elect

The Former Acting Governor of Adamawa state and Governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party,PDP Alhaji Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri has emerged the new governor of the State after defeating the incumbent Governor Muhammadu Jibrilla of All Progressives Congress,APC in the concluded supplementary election held yesterday.
Announcing the results of the long awaited battle at the Collation Center in Yola, Thursday night, the Returning Officer, Professor Andrew Yakubu applauded the sportsmanship exhibited by the contestants.
Professor Yakubu while declaring the governorship candidate of the PDP, Fintiri winner, said, “ by the power bestowed in me as the Returning Officer, “I hereby declare Mr Fintiri of the PDP as the winner, having satisfied the needed requirements as stipulated by the law.
Professor Haruna said PDP’s won in all the fourteen local government areas of the State.
The results by local government are: Girei LG, PDP 352 votes, APC 195 votes. Yola South LG APC 188, PDP 825.Song LGA APC 406, PDP 647.Lamourde LGA APC 80, PDP 1,356. Fufore LGA APC 61, PDP 303.Hong LGA APC 49, PDP 678.Shelleng LGA APC 64, PDP 242. Ganye LGA APC 88, PDP 184. Guyuk LGA APC 10, PDP 717. Michika LGA APC 187, PDP 1,113 and in Mubi North LGA APC 11, PDP 900.
Voting ended peacefully in all the 44 Polling Units across 14 LGAs in Adamawa State where the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC conducted supplementary polls yesterday.
Our correspondent reports that the exercise was generally peaceful although the voter turn out was very low.
The rerun election was a straight battle between the Peoples Democratic Partycandidate, Hammadu Fintiri, and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, and incumbent governor of the state, Jubrilla Bindow.
Before yesterday’s supplementary elections, the PDP candidate had 367,471 votes while the candidate of the APC had 334,995 votes.
