Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM) Chairman and her Commissioners to resign following the fire outbreak that gutted the commission’s office on Saturday.
PDP described the fire outbreak as sabotage to the electoral process of the Local Government elections in the State.
In a statement signed by PDP’s Kaduna State chapter Publicity Secretary Abraham, Alberah Catoh, called for investigation on the cause of the fire.
The statement said the party has always had its suspicion about the sincerity of the SIECOM’s readiness to conduct a credible LGAs election in the state.
“We believe that they are no longer trustworthy to conduct a free, fair and credible election that would usher in new leadership into the Local Government Councils in Kaduna State.
“The PDP has always had its suspicion about the sincerity of the SIECOM’s readiness to conduct a credible election”, he said.
The party then called on the State House of Assembly and Nigerian Police to immediately set up an Investigative Panel to look into the remote cause of the fire incidence so as to unravel the obvious collusion.
“We wonder why the Commission Headquarters will be gutted by fire barely three (3) weeks to the Local Government elections. This is a sabotage, and it is unacceptable,”.
The party also said the government has been delaying the conduct of the elections that would usher in the elected councillors and Council Chairmen across the State since they took over mantle of leadership.
He said “No wonder, they have decided to set the Commission Headquarters ablaze. How can a Commission that prides itself as “Independent” submit to this kind of cheap cowardice?,”
Catoh said APC is looking at colossal defeat in the forthcoming Local Government elections, hence they are using every obsolete means to disenfranchise the electorates and deny Kaduna State citizens leadership at the Ward and Local Government levels.
