The newly endorsed Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for North East Senatorial District of Niger state, Dr Shem Nuhu Zagbayi, has received royal blessing and prayers from the three Emirate Councils of the zone in the state.
Receiving the approval at the weekend from the traditional rulers in their various palaces in Suleja, Minna and Kagara, the leader of the delegation and PDP zonal chairman, Alhaji Mamman Gambo, informed the royal fathers that following the death of late Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta, the party had no option than to fill in the vacancy and had nominated a credible and acceptable candidate, Dr Shem Zagbayi, in a consensus, considering his pedigree and worth of experience, to continue the works initiated by late Kuta.
Gambo noted that the party zoned the ticket to Suleja Emirate after several years in Minna adding that the PDP needed who would bring results that will impact positively on the lives of Nigerlites.
According to him, the party could not afford to field an antagonistic person but one with a listening ear from the ruling party.
“We are here to inform you about the resolution of our party, PDP, that Dr Shem is our candidate for the Senatorial seat following the death of Senator Kuta. He was nominated on a consensus after resolution, we are seeking your royal blessing and prayers”.
The Emir of Suleja, Mallam Awal Ibrahim, warned Nigerians to give more attention to what bind them together rather than what divides them like party, religion and tribe.
He lamented the predicaments of Suleja Emirate after sacrificing its land to create FCT just as he explained that during military regime, they were getting some benefits but such had been withheld since the democratic dispensation in 1999.
He called on politicians to carry the women along in their activities if they must succeed.
“Zagbayi is not a stranger, he was my PHC chairman when I was the governor of the state; he respects me a lot, he is my son, colleague and I prayed all for him. He is at home and no place like home” he said.
Similarly, at Minna Emirate, Alhaji Umaru Faruk Bahago, prayed for God to chose the right person who would give good representations at the upper chamber while wishing the party a success at the up coming election.
The Emir of Kagara, Alhaji Salihu Tanko, expressed the same wish with the Minna Emir at his palace in Kagara.
In an interview after the visit to the Emirates, Zagbayi assured that he would give a quality representation, stressing that he will continue from where late Kuta stopped especially on the actualization of HYPADEC bill.
He also promised to ensure completion of all constituency projects and pursuit of legislation to put to an end the challenges confronting the state especially Suleja emirate due to its proximity to Abuja.
“The president will give me a listening ear; I will use my connections, contacts and strategies on how to get things done and I know when I see Mr President and remind him of HYPADEC bill, he will listen to me and if there is a serious impediment to signing the bill he will assist me”.
