The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has asked President Good Luck Jonathan and other intending candidates to hasten up and pick the nomination forms as the 30th of October dateline remains sacrosanct.
Addressing the media shortly after its meeting Wednesday in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, said that the working committee has henceforth made automatic for those seeking waivers to contest elective positions in the ruling party.
While affirming the comment of the Chairman of the party on waivers, Metuh stated that what those seeking waivers should do is to apply for such and the application would be given them.
However, the national publicity secretary said that the NWC again has approved three ad-hoc delegates from the wards against the party’s ward congress.
According to him, people seeking to become ward delegates can now get automatic waiver from the wards, which will enable them participate in the ward delegate election.
On the delayed purchase of nomination form by Mr. President, Metu, said that despite the party’s adoption of GoodLuck Jonathan as a sole candidate early September, “Mr. President has to pick his form like any other intending candidate as obtained in the constitution of the party.”
He stressed that, “the NWC has maintained that the dateline of 6 pm on the 30th of October remains sacrosanct. And no intending member is to obtain the form a minute past that time”.
The NWC informed every party member that the primaries must be elective or through adoption.
Meanwhile, PDP has denied any threat from the Niger Delta Youth Forum seeking to purchase nomination form for the President as a son of the Niger Delta.
According to Metu, anybody seeking the purchase of nomination form must obtain it through the best of practice.
The leadership of the Niger Delta Youth for Jonathan led by Benjamin Egbunike, has threatened to shut down the PDP secretariat should they be denied again the purchase of the form for Jonathan.
