From Umar Dankano, Yola

The Adamawa State government has reacted to the claim by the chairman of the electoral committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Tim Ihemadu that the conducted rescheduled state assembly primaries in the state was held under duress and the that the Electoral Committee members where held hostage at the presidential lodge.

The position was made public yesterday in a press statement issued and signed by his Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Phineas Elisha exonerating Governor Ngillari and his government over alleged wrong doing.

The statement said what the government did to the committee was simply to guarantee their safety which he said was normal being the Chief Security of the state.

“The attention of the Adamawa State Governor, His Excellency Bala Ngilari has been drawn to an alleged petition to the PDP National Chairman by the chairman House of Assembly Electoral Committee for Adamawa State, Amb Tim Ihemadu to the effect that his committee was detained in the Adamawa State Presidential Lodge and forced to sign the result of the said primary election.

“His Excellency described the petition as very unfortunate; saying that as Chief Security Officer of the State and party leader, he owes the committee the duty to care and protect its members”, the statement said.

It explained further that the governor decided to move members of the committee from Muna Hotel where they initially lodged to the Presidential Lodge for purely security reasons.

“His Excellency’s action is in line with normal party practice in the past in being a good host to the party August Visitors”, the statement said.
