PDP plans massive rigging, APC insists

APC-vs-PDPBy Lawrence Olaoye & Ayodele Samuel, Osogbo.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was desperately planning to rig the Osun State governorship poll slated for Saturday.

The opposition APC said it uncovered the PDP’s manual to rig Saturday’s governorship election in the State, complete with projected fake results in all the 30 local government areas of the state.

At a press conference in Osogbo yesterday, APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun flanked by its National Publicity Secretary Alhaji Lai Mohammed said the rigging plans were contained in two documents prepared by the PDP in the state, and which are now in the possession of the APC.

The first is a ‘secret’ document marked: ‘’Highly Confidential’’, which contains a meticulous outline of plans to rig the election, polling unit by polling unit, using pre-programmed ballot papers already designed and thumb printed with vanishing ink in favor of PDP.

The second document, entitled: ‘’Task Force: Operation (PDP) takeover of Osun’’, lists the actions to be taken at most of the 30 local government areas in the state, including thuggery, snatching of ballot boxes and instigation of violent clashes, the PDP members to coordinate the recommended actions and the APC members to be arrested to pave the way for such actions.

The party said the ‘secret’ document further contains the plan to deploy specified numbers of impression ballot papers and vanishing ink in 1,195 polling units across 155 wards in all Local Government Areas of Osun State, in addition to a plan to de-register 47,000 voters, whose Voters Identification Numbers have been illegally acquired so they won’t find their names on the voters register on election day.

The former Governor of Edo State said the document also contains the number of pre-allotted votes for each local government to make up the number of 406,116, which the PDP has pre-allotted to itself even before the commencement of voting.

The party said the elaborate and audacious plan is to be carried out, in connivance with key INEC officials from the National headquarters and those deployed from other states, with the staunch backing of all security agencies deployed for the election, with particularly-mobilized personnel, former militants and masked thugs impersonating security officials under a combined team code named: ‘Election Task Force’, directly under the instructions of Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro (Minister of State for Defence) and Jelili Adesiyan (Minister of Police Affairs), Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode and Mr. Chris Uba.

It noted the mandate of the task force includes the intimidation, harassment and arrest of APC party chieftains, agents and sympathizers who are uncompromising or refuse their offer of filthy lucre.

While calling on the new Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba and other stakeholders in the election to show professionalism informed electorates to be extra vigilant and ensure that their votes count, the APC said it is confident that, in the end, millions of soldiers, police and other security agents are not enough to take on the people and crush their will, much as they will try to.

Similarly, the Osun State Chapter of the party also accused PDP of smuggling ballot papers into the state in a bullion van.

In a statement, signed by its state Chairman, Elder Adelowo Adebiyi and Director of Publicity, Barr. Kunle Oyatomi, entitled: “In Spite of Mr. President’s Assurances, We Still Have Shenanigans”, the APC alleged that the ballot papers were “brought in preparatory to thumb printing them at a Catholic School in Ife Odan and then surreptitiously to be added to the party’s tally in all wards and councils in Saturday’s election.”

Adebiyi said one of the bullion vans was parked at the PDP secretariat until the wee hours of Thursday before it was taken into an unknown destination.

However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed allegations by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie- Oyegun, of plots to rig Saturday’s governorship election in Osun as an “infantile blackmail” unbecoming of his office and status.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, in a statement issued yesterday, said the allegations are completely wild, baseless and mere fabrications aimed at distracting PDP members and supporters and discourage them from fully participating in the election. It further said the allegation was a ploy by the APC to make its members and supporters over-confident and divert attention to their own sinister plan.

Meanwhile INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun, Mr. Olusegun Agbaje, and Supervising National Commissioner for the Osun State election, Mohammed Ahmad Wali assured again of a peaceful and credible poll.

They said allegations that they were planning to rig for a particular candidate were false and baseless. According to Wali, there are over 2500 electoral observers from 29 bodies, 19 local and 10 foreign.

He called on the observers to be independent and professional in the discharge of their duties on Saturday.
