A group of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members from Basawa in Sabon Gari local government area of Kaduna State has appealed to the leadership of the party at both state and national levels to zone the party’s House of Representatives ticket to Basawa district in the interest of justice and fairness.
The group said, Basawa District, which plays host to reputable institutions like Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), NCAT, NILEST, IAR, NARICT, NAPRI and a host of others has been maginalised for too long.
The group said in a statement by its leader, Alhaji Ali Go-Slow, Kakakin Samaru, in Kaduna yesterday that the appeal became necessary in view of the fact that the House of Representatives seat of the Sabon Gari Federal Constituency had remained in Sabon Gari district since the advent of the present political dispensation in 1999.
“Our appeal to the leadership of the party at both state and national levels is sincerely out of concerns expressed by all PDP members from the area. Zoning PDP’s House of Representatives ticket to Basawa district will certainly make our people to have a sense of belonging, and contribute meaningfully for the democratic development of the area, state and the country at large,” he said.
It however also called on former Kaduna State Governor and former PDP National Chairman, Senator Ahmed Muhammad Makarfi, and other PDP elders as well as stakeholders from the area to look into the issue by zoning the ticket to the district to make a trial.
The Kakakin Samaru, who described PDP members from the area as “loyal and peaceful” noted that the area had been relegated to the background in the scheme of political responsibilities. The district has benefited once when it was given a slot of commissionership,” he said.
“Basawa area was such a big district that should not be ignored in terms of political responsibilities as it played host to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), NCAT, NILEST, IAR, NARICT, NAPRI and a host of others.”
He said the area should be given a trial to fly the PDP’s House of Representatives flag in the 2019 general elections given its strong electoral value to the party at local, state and national levels.
The group spokesman expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious in all the elections that would be conducted in the 2019 general elections if the PDP’s House of Representatives ticket is eventually zoned to the area.
He however commended all PDP members from the area for remaining steadfastness and loyalty to the party leadership at all levels.
