Ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate at the weekend overwhelmingly defeated the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC)’s in the bye election into Kauru/Chawai constituency of the Kaduna State Assembly.

This us coming as a chieftain in the APC, Alhaji Alhaji Salihu Mohammed Kukman, has stressed that only a united opposing can dislodge Governor Ramalan Yero in Kaduna stare in 2015.

Announcing the election results, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mr. Timothy Chindo of PDP as winner after satisfying all requirements to emerge victorious.

The electoral body said Chindo polled 36,152 votes to defeat his rival, Dr. Isaac Auta Zakai of APC, who got 16,451 votes. The by-election followed the death of Hon. Shaibu Tukura on March 21, 2014.

The victory is seen as a litmus test to the forthcoming 2015 general elections in the state.

The Kaduna state governor visited Kauru few days to the election, where he galvanized support for Chindo, leading to his receiving massive support from voters.

Reacting to the victory, Deputy Governor, Ambassador Nuhu Bajoga, in a statement signed by his Press Secretary, James Swam, said no opposition can challenge the PDP in the State.

According to him, despite moves by a new opposition party to obstruct the growing influence of the PDP, the party has already strategised on the modalities to counter the opposition.

“I told them precisely that the message between now and 2015 is to unite and make sure that PDP wins all elections in Jaba local government. We have done it before and we shall continue to do it.

“We shall not be intimidated by any new party that has come up. PDP has remained the same with the same logo and flag since it started in 1998. And so, by the grace of God, we shall clear our elections by 2015”, he declared.

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the APC has warned that it would be difficult for a divided opposition to confront the incumbent Kaduna state governor at the polls in 2015.

He made the disclosure while declaring his ambition to contest the State gubernatorial elections come 2015.

Lukman called on all those who were aggrieved by the conduct of the APC congress in the state to bury the hatchet and work for the victory of the party at the polls.
