Members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have conducted state congress by defying the COVID-19 protocols.
This is coming at the time when the country is seriously concerned about the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), said 99,063 cases have been confirmed, 79,417 cases have been discharged and 1,350 deaths have been recorded across the country.
Jigawa State has recorded 415 COVID-19 cases in total and twelve persons lost their lives to the deadly virus.
Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State said state Government is taking steps to prevent the spread of the second wave of the pandemic.
Governor Badaru had banned all gatherings that involve more than 50 persons, ordering civil servants to work from home and closing all the primary and secondary schools.
He also ordered for the strict compliance with all COVID-19 safety guidelines, including ban on large gatherings, compulsory wearing of facemasks, keeping physical distancing, regular hand washing and use of sanitisers.
However, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, National headquarters had in a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said the congress would be observed in accordance with NCDC directives.
It is however, observed that all the safety guidelines were largely ignored and violated by the delegates and other members of the party.
Announcing the results, the congress chairman, Umar Ardo, said consensus candidates were elected in all the 39 positions.
He said Hon. Babandi Ibrahim was elected as chairman, Deputy Chairman Hon Ali Idris Diginsa.
While Isa zakari , Idris Iliyas and Muhammad Zangi as Vice Chairmen and Isa Bello Gwadayi as Secretary of the party.
