A Chieftain of the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has gone ballistic over continued stay in office of elected party executives in Edo State.
Mr Jeffrey Edorodion said this while fielding questions from journalists on Tuesday in Benin City where he appealed to the national leadership of PDP to retrieve the main opposition party from its dark-hearted men and their criminal enterprise.
He, therefore urged the National Executive Council, NEC of the party by Chief Uche Secondus and PDP governors in the South South as well as other Coalition to to sack the incumbent elected executive led by its Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih haven led the opposition party for 13 years, which is a violation of PDP Constitution.
He appealed to the party leadership to urgently treat the symptoms of the crisis and salvage the party from a dangerous territory, ahead of the contestation in the next governorship election in Edo State.
In the light of the circumstances, Edorodion, a former Vice Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the State, said, it behoves the national Executives of the party to call for a fresh party Congresses in Edo State before the end of the year, warning that the party stands the risk of perpetually remaining as opposition if steps were not taken to stop highly placed individuals who are traded in with the party.
Edorodion, wondered with grief why the PDP leadership in Edo State has not deem it fit to convened a meeting to review the circumstances that led to humiliating defeat of the party in the 2019 State house of Assembly elections where the All Progressives Congress Party, APC won all the 24 seats in the House haven put up a brilliant performance in the Presidential election.
According to him, “If I were him, haven served for 13 unbroken years as Chairman of the party, I will resign.
“We have being in opposition for so long a time. We cannot continue to remain in opposition.
“Therefore, I call on the National leadership of our party led by Chief Uche Secondus, the Board of Trustees, BOT and the PDP Governors, especially governor Nyesome Wike of Rivers State, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta) and Mr Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa) States Governors to come and rescue this party from collapse.
“If they know what is good for the party, Edo State PDP executives should be dissolved and a new executives be elected before the end of this year.
“Chief Obih has served his tenure for God sake. We want new hands, not people who only know how to talk on the pages of Newspapers, but cannot win elections in their Wards.
“Has anyone care to ask why the Chairman has not asked why we lost the State House of Assembly election in Edo? Did any Contestant in that election went to court to challenge the outcome of the polls?”, he queried.
Contacted for comment in a telephone interview, Edo State PDP Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, said, “I am not interested.
But, the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Mr Chris Nehikhare said in a terse statement, said that the lifespan the incumbent executive will elapse in March 2020.
