…charges staff to shun tribalism
By Etuka Sunday
The Minister of Communication, Dr. Isah Pantami, has charged the members of staff of the ministry to work hard, not to take their duties lightly and shun tribalism within the ministry.
Pantami, who just assumed office, gave the charge in a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja, while addressing the staff of the ministry.
He enjoined the members of staff to come together as one to deliver the ministry’s mandate so that agencies under the ministry would be motivated to deliver their own mandate as well.
He stressed that the ministry would not take it likely with any staff that does not deliver in terms of work and a punishment awaits the individual.
“The responsibility is not mine alone and I believe. We must come together as brothers and sisters to deliver our mandate. If we do what is right, history will be very kind to us but if we betray the trust given to us, history will not be kind to us.
“We know the mandate of every agency under the minstry and we know the role that the Ministry should play. Each and every agency will be motivated to deliver its own mandate and the ministry as well will do its work.
“Work properly and ministry will supervise, we must work as a team, I will not allow any division to take place. We must be united, we are all Nigerians.
“We must treat all Nigerians equally, what ever we share with you in common, if you fail to deliver, we know what the Ministry will do to take action, if you deliver you will get our support 100 per cent.
“We can go to any extent to level the ground for you to make sure you do your work successfully,” he said.
He noted that the ministry had a lot of challenges in the ICT sector and even within the ministry, adding that there were many government circulars that had not been implemented, which needed to be tackled.
The Minister revealed that there would be a two-day retreat so as to discuss all the challenges including the policies within the ministry that had not been implemented and take the necessary measures.
“There are a lot of challenges in the ICT sector. We are starting a two-day retreat along with the Perm. Sec.
“There are many government circulars that have not been implemented, as long as I am here with you, they must be implemented, that is just the message.
Any policy at all that come from the government, which are not implemented, we need to come together and discuss because they ought to be implemented,” Pantami said.
Earlier, the Perm.Sec Mr. Istifanus Fuktur, noted that the ministry in no time would soon switch to digital instead of dealing with files manually.
Fuktur welcomed the newly appointed minister and urged him to look through the challenges been faced in the ministry and act on it.
He also called on the staff of the ministry to be law abiding and to work diligently in order to achieve the best for the government.
