Foreign ministry said today that the President Mamnoon Hussain’s visit to Nigeria has been postponed.
“Due to pressing commitments at home, the President’s visit to Nigeria has been postponed”, a short press release issued by ministry of foreign affairs said adding that the new dates for the visit will be finalized through diplomatic channels.
President Mamnoon Hussain was scheduled on an official visit to Nigeria from April 21 to 23, at the invitation of the President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan.
It would have been the first Presidential visit from Pakistan to Nigeria in last three decades. The President was also set to address the Business Forums in Abuja and in Lagos.
According to the statement, the trade relations between Pakistan and Nigeria have improved considerably. “The total volume of trade between the two countries almost doubled recently from earlier US$ 30.677 million in 2011-2012 to US$67.361 million in 2012-2013. “Nigeria is an important member of D-8, OIC and the UN where the two countries closely collaborate”, read the statement.
