The popular opposition zone in Niger state, Kontagora, which is the home town of the incumbent Governor of the state, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has witnessed a heavy defection as over one thousand members decamped from APC to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The defection was part of the events to marked the unanimous adoption at the weekend of Mohammed Sani Duba for the Zone C senatorial election in 2019 in Kontagora local government of the state by the zonal officials of the party comprising eight local governments.
Duba, in an interview after his endorsement, said that he remained in PDP because he has realized that it is the only political party for Nigeria that had given every citizen the desired opportunity.
He assured the electorates that when elected in 2019 into the senate, he will give priority to agriculture, saying he will invest heavily in the sector, youths and women empowerment and engagement through skills acquisition, as well as education, which he said would get the citizens out of perpetual poverty.
The former House of Representative candidate who denied speculations that General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and General Abdulsalam Abubakar were behind his aspiration, noted that they are elder statesmen who would remain neutral in such capacities.
He therefore urged the party faithful to remain resolute, united, focused, just as he said that politics should not be do or die affairs but an expectation of success or failure.
He added that any party that wins should looked inward by creating opportunities to engaged the people economically as he was approached to come to serve.
The Chairman of PDP in Niger North Senatorial District, Hon. Yahaya Ability and the Chairman of Kontagora elders forum, Alhaji Abubakar Sule Tukura, however accused the ruling APC for not being able to solved the current problems facing the country, describing it as an indication of failure on their part.
The stalwarts applauded the emergence of Mohammed Sani Duba, assuring that the party would bounce back in 2019 because he is a man of integrity, honour and intelligence, pointing out that such qualities will pull crowds during elections.
Also, the Legal Adviser of PDP, North Central Zone, Barr. Isyaku Barau, noted that the people had realized that they voted for a wrong political party hence they have started coming back home after their excursion.
Meanwhile, the loser of the 2015 gubernatorial elections and winner of the then PDP primaries Alhaji Umar Mohammed Nasko is been prosecuted by the Economy Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over a lot of funds allegedly syphoned from ecological funds and others.
