Ahead of the August 9 governorship election in Osun State, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday raised the alarm over what it described as influx of strange faces in the state just as it urged the security forces to be at alert in other not to be caught napping during the election
In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja yesterday, the National Secretary of the Party,Professor Wale Oladipo, accused the opposition All Progressive Party (APC) of being the mastermind behind the influx of the strangers into the state.
He said “I’m using this opportunity to alert the sevurity forces in Osun State to be on the red alert over the influx of strange faces every where in Osun state ahead of the governorship election in the state. The main opposition, APC, is believed to be behind this. We don’t want violence any where in the state before, during and after the election. That is why we are shouting it out now for the security forces to be at alert and bring them to order before they will set the state ablaze”.
According to him, “intelligence reports reaching us indicated that based on the experience they heard in Ekiti state election when their warlords were prevented from moving huge sums of money into the state and denied entry as well, they decided to do same now ahead of the election in Osun slated for next month. I hail from the state so I know what I’m talking about; they are known for violence but this time around they will fail”.
Oladipo advised the electorates in Osun and other parts of the country not to sell their voter cards for any price in their own interest, saying, “these people are all out at all cost to retain power in the state but alas the people in the state have rejected them; why must they be forcing themselves on the people?”.
He also urged parents and guardians to educate their children and wards on the need not to be used as thugs or cause political violence in the state so as not to incur the wrath of the law.
