Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is expected to grace the launch of the School for Special Needs to be established by the Catholic Diocese Of Makurdi, Benue State capital.
The event which is scheduled as part of activities to mark the 25th Priestly Anniversary of Bishop of Makurdi Diocese Chirkpa Anagbe will be attended by several other governors as well as representative of British Government.
The Diocesan Director of Communications, Reverend Father Moses Aondover Iorapuu, said they intend to raise over 500 million naira to build the school which is expected to offer almost free education to those with Special needs.
He said the school will provide basic and secondary school facilities, equipment and other resources needed for the education of those who are physically, emotionally and spiritually discriminated against by the society and their family members.
“This pet project includes those with visual impairment, hearing impairment, physical and health impairment, learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, multiple disabilities, the gifted and talented and albinos who suffer stigmatization and stereotypes.
“This is a project that has no comparison with anything that exists in the state.
“The Church cannot afford to ignore people with Special needs and still claim to be inclusive and sharing with the downtrodden as Jesus instructed,” he added.
He said as part of the anniversary, on 6th November, the Bishop will visit Internally Displaced Persons IDPs camps at Agan and Daudu, celebrate Holy Mass with the children and staff of all Catholic schools in the diocese while Prayers and masses will also be held at all parishes for the success of the anniversary.
According to him, on Thursday November 7th, there will be a Fund raising dinner at Benue Hotels, Makurdi by 5.00 pm, where the Vice president Yemi Osinbanjo is expected to attend.
“Friday, November 8th is the climax of activities lined up for the silver jubilee celebration; there will be a Thanksgiving Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral by 10.00 am and a grand reception after the Holy Mass,” he stated.
