The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday accused the national Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole of plotting to cause a State of emergency in Edo State, following the recent violent attacks in some parts of the State.
The factional State Publicity Secretary of APC, Mr Joseph Osagiede, disclosed this while addressing the Media at the party Secretariat in Benin City, the State Capital where he accused the former governor of leading dissident members of the party to threaten the peace and safety in the State.
“It appears Comrade Oshiomhole is hell-bent on pushing Edo State to the precipice with the intent of creating the impression that law and order have effectively broken down in the State, so that a State of emergency will be declared by the authorities”.
He berated Oshiomhole for disregarding directives from the State government and other law enforcement agencies including the police and judiciary.
According to him, “The issues took another turn for the worst at the Weekend, when he along his lieutenant in the proscribed Edo Peoples Movement (EPM) reported to the use of explosives and other dangerous weapons in some parts of the State, thereby endangering the lives of law-abiding Citizens.
He said the activities of the dissident group inclusion the factional Chairman of the Colonel David Imuse (Rted) who had been restrained by a Federal High court in Port Harcourt from parading himself as the State Chairman of the party were pointer to the brigandage in the party, leading to the hospitalization of tens of Edo people and the destruction of property worth millions of Naira.
The factional Secretary alleged further that the national Chairman of the party in his egoistic style of operation orchestrated the State House of Assembly primaries to fix his stooges so as to impeach the governor along with the 14 Lawmakers-elect who are yet to be inaugurated in the 6th Assembly.
But, a Chieftain of Edo APC, Mr Samson Osagie who reacted on behalf of the national Chairman of the party, urged the State governor, Godwin Obaseki to stop the blame game.
He said the State government and itself are the ones responsible for the attacks and the public is aware of this.
“The State government has continued in error by seeking to put every blame on every other person, other than itself.
The truth of the matter is that I do not know how they decided to put logic on its head, as the Governor who is realtor the security of life and properties has decided to blame other persons rather than itself.
“He (Obaseki) has threatened time without number on violence over time and the state government is moving around to accuse those who are being attacked for being responsible for the attacks”, he said.
