From Uche Nnorom Makurdi

Senator representing Benue North West Senatorial District Sen. George Akume has lashed out at Governor Samuel Ortom, accusing him of not possessing any university degree as he claimed.
Sen. Akume who made the allegation during the All Progressives Congress, APC caucus meeting held at the Newcastle Hotel, Makurdi, said the governor has been lying about his university degree which he never obtained.
He also, accused Governor Ortom of defrauding the local governments by remitting only N5 million from Federal Allocation to them and pocketing the rest.
Akume lamented that while Benue people are wallowing in hunger and penury, the governor and his family members are smiling to the banks everyday
The senator decried that the only federal government intervention programme in Benue state which is the National Social Investment ProgramME has been hijacked by Samuel Ortom, his wife, his in-laws and his family, adding that several hundreds of millions are being stolen from this programme by the first family every month.
The former governor debunked claims made by the governor that he was instrumental to his emergence as governor in 1999 and reelection in 2003.
“I won my elections in 1999 and 2003 when Ortom was in All Peoples Party, APP. I also, won my senatorial seat in 2011 under Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN. But the Governor boasted yesterday that was instrumental to my winning elections Ortom lost Guma local government, his own home, in 2015 because the entire people of the area rejected him,” Akume said.
He then alleged that Ortom is using Benue state funds meant to pay workers’ salaries to fund a certain presidential aspirant in the PDP.
