Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has frowned at the action of the General Manager of the State Urban Development Board Saint Gbilekaa Abrahams in renaming Ahmadu Bello way and several other streets in Gboko local government area.
It was gathered that the board renamed the Ahmadu Way to Samuel Ortom way, the Bristow road leading to Gyado Junction after Secretary to the State Government Prof. Tony Ijohor as well as Mkar road where the University of Mkar is located was renamed in honor of former Senate President Dr. Iorchir Ayu
Similarly, the Board renamed another popular Street Uke Wende intersection road in Makurdi also, after Prof. Tony Ijohor as well as Balewa crescent to Anngu Orgnu crescent.
Worried by this development, the Governor in a press statement signed by his Press Secretary Terver Akase and made available to Peoplesdaily, criticized the Board for embarking on such action without following due approval and directed the GM to immediately stop the renaming of major streets in Gboko as well as dismantle the name plates mounted on the affected streets.
He further directed the General Manager to explain within 24 hours why the agency embarked on the renaming of major streets without approval.
