The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) yesterday said that only certified quality products would be allowed in circulation in the country.
SON’s Director-General, Mr Osita Aboloma, made the remark at the one-day sensitisation seminar for manufacturers and importers from the North-West and North-East, in Kaduna.
Aboloma was represented on the occasion by the Regional Coordinator, North-West region, Mr Dauda Yakubu.
The theme of the seminar is: “Product Authentication Mark (PAM) “.
Aboloma said that PAM would be affixed on certified products; “it would, therefore, mean that only certified quality products will be in circulation.
“On our part, we solemnly resolved that we will continue to aid and support genuine businessmen through our quality assurance and sensitisation activities.”
According to the D-G, the agency is poised toward ensuring that a level playing field is created for our manufacturers, importers, traders, exporters as well as product end-users.
“This effort must ensure that genuine business persons are not disadvantaged by persons who engage in manufacture, importation and sales of substandard products in the country.
“That is the more reason the agency has recently stepped up sensitisation programme on Ease of Doing Business, the operative of consumer engagement,” he said.
Aboloma said the law has given SON enormous powers, which would only be exercised with diligence through our stakeholders’ engagement, awareness creation and enforcement in the course of implementing the PAM scheme.
The director-general call on consumers to always have a robust engagement, and always watch out for genuine products with SON certification logos.
Earlier, the Kaduna State Coordinator, SON, Mr Datti Danlami, says the programme is aimed at strong relationship for mutual benefits.
Danlami said that the programme would protect genuine manufacturers and importers from faking and adulteration of products, by ensuring that only certified products are in the market.
“The sensitisation on Product Authentication Mark (PAM) is for you to see the need to key in this laudable policy of government, which purpose is to protect your business, ” Danlami said.
