From James Ogunnaike, Abeokuta

One person was confirmed dead, while three others were critically injured in an accident which occurred at Kobape, along the Abeokuta – Siun -Sagamu expressway, yesterday afternoon.

The accident, which happened around 2. 40 p.m. involved a Silver coloured Golf car, with registration number (LAGOS) AKD 659 CB, which allegedly rammed into a moving trailer from the rear.

The driver of the Golf car, whose identity was yet to be ascertained died on his way to the hospital, while the three other occupants of the vehicle were on danger list and were rushed to the State Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, by officers of the State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE).

It was reliably gathered from the Head of the TRACE rescue team, Commander Ayodeji Adekoya who evacuated the dead and the victims from the wreckage of the Golf car that the driver of the car was suspected to have over sped and could not control the velocity of the car when he attempted to overtake the moving trailer.

He stated further that sum of N500, 000 was found in the pocket of one of the victims, while another N213, 440 hidden in a cellophane bag was recovered from the wreckage of the Golf car when searched.

While the initial sum of N200, 000 recovered from the accident car was handed over to police officers at the Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Adekoya said the sum of N500, 000 recovered from the pocket of one of the victims was handed over to the medical officers headed by one Dr. (Mrs.) Adigun at the State Hospital in Ijaye, where the victims were rushed for treatment by the TRACE officials.

The corpse of the dead driver of the Golf car has been deposited at the morgue of the same hospital.
