A governorship aspirant for Ondo State on the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC), Bukola Adetula, has said that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu does not have the experience that is required to develop the state into an industrial entity, adding that his venture into the Governorship contest in the state was because of urgent need for change.
Speaking to journalists after submitting his nomination and expression of interest forms at the APC National Secretariat, Bukola Adetula said what Ondo state needs now is robust industrialization, which he said he will implement through tiles, glass, fertilizer, and also building of ports in the state.
He said the multiplicity of persons contesting against Akeredolu implies the need to bring about change in the state. “In 2016, I ran for Governor in Ondo State and I did that at time because I strongly believed that we needed real change and I still feel that way.
“I am from Owo and I think is worth noting that I am from the same town as our incumbent , we are both lawyers, I see him as my big brother, we attended the same Church. As our incumbent you will expect that we will be here giving him support to go for a second term but I am not and I am not for simple reason; I think Ondo really needs real change and with what we had in the past years, we want to believe that our Governor has done the best that he can do. You cannot give what you don’t have”.
He said though there is need to commend the Governor for his efforts to develop the state, yet, there are much more to be done to develop Ondo state.
“That is why now in 2020 I am back in the race asking the good people of Ondo State to give me the opportunity to serve them for four years and give me an opportunity do what I promised to do in 2016 and what I still stand by, which is industrialization.
“I said it earlier, you cannot give what you do not have. I believe I have the knowledge, I have the experience, I have the exposure, I have the contacts to be able to take Ondo State from what it is today, which is really a civil service State to an industrialized State.”
He said Ondo has a lot of potentials to offer, adding that what is still lacking in the state is leadership to develop what the state has to where it should be.
“I always say, Ondo should be better than even Lagos. I said that with all due respect to leaders in Lagos. We have great human resource. You cannot push Ondo folks aside when it comes to what we have been able to do, what we have been able to achieve in terms of experience in various fields; in sciences, all the technical fields. We are great in agriculture, why are we suffering? Why is our agriculture not developing faster.
“We talked extensively on the need to develop our waterways. Is there any reason why Ondo State should not have a Port? We deserve a Port, we can develop a Port. I can bring in investors who would bring in their own money. We are not looking for State money to build this Port. We will bring private sector money from other parts of the world to come and build that Port 100%. That will create development for Ondo State”, he added.
Meanwhile, he has advocates for the use of direct primary mode to elect the candidate who will fly the flag of the party in the Governorship election.
