The House of Representatives has urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), to brief state governors on the progress made in investigating cases in their states, and to intensify the investigation into the murder of Comrade Olaitan Oyerinde, a former Principal Private Secretary to Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State.
The House also urged the Inspector General of Police to harmonize all perceived areas of conflict in the investigations by the police and the State Security Services based on quality of evidence and transmit the case file to the Attorney General of Edo State for immediate prosecution of all the suspects.
The calls were part of a report of the petition by Civil Society Organizations submitted to the House by its committee on public petitions chaired by Uzo Azubuike (PDP, Abia). The committee also submitted a report on the alleged wrongful termination and suspension of the appointment of one Mr Patrick Okoli and one E.O Mbadugha respectively by the Nigeria Police Force.
In addition, it “further urged the Inspector General of Police to critically investigate the complicity of the Divisional Police Officer and officers of Esigie Police Station, Benin City in the documentation of the recovered locally made single barrel gun in the face of manifest inconsistencies in both the extract from the Crime Duty and Exhibit Register.”
The House, nonetheless gave kudos to the Police and SSS for their efforts in investigating the murder and hoped that in the future there will be greater synergy between security agencies in the country.
